Autotrophs and Heterotrophs Living in Temperate Woodlands
Key Stone Species
A key stone species living in the Temperate Woodlands would be the squirrel. Squirrels are necessary to this ecosystem for several reasons. They eat nuts, which are rich in proteins and fats, then when they are hunted, the protiens and fats that they collected are then passed on to its hunter. Squirrels also store nuts for the winter, and then in more cases than none, they forget where the bury them. In other words, squirrels play a large role in the planting of new trees. And lastly, many other species in that ecosystem rely on the squirrel as a source of food.
